The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Have you ever been told your dream was a waste of time, impossible or that what you were investing in would never amount to much?
I heard that many times in the beginning of this farming journey. It’s so important that we are listening to God and letting the Holy Spirit guide every move.
We have to spend time with God in order to get to know Him and learn to listen to His voice.
In order for any relationship to work, you have to spend time with that person and get to know them. It’s the same with our relationship with God.
Starting each day out in quiet time with the Lord is life changing. Even if your schedule doesn’t allow that, try to find time that works for you and ask God for help.
I’ll never forget my grandpa telling me a story about when he bought this 320 acre farm back in the day.
He paid $100 per acre for it, and it was full of hills, timber and brush. One guy stopped him on the street and asked him, “What’d you buy that poor old farm for? That dirt couldn’t even raise an umbrella!” My grandpa just laughed and said, “It’s all I could afford.”
He was sure glad he listened to God and not others when buying that farm.
He always said, “Don’t let the negative people get to you or persuade your decisions. It’s so important to listen to God and let Him guide you.”
I’ve found the same thing to be true over the years. This is my 7th season farming that poor old farm and God has blessed me with some amazing yields over the years.
The land, once considered worthless by others, has transformed in ways that no one could have predicted. Even in the roughest seasons, I’ve learned that it’s not just the soil, but God’s hand that makes the difference.
Most importantly, He is using that poor old farm to have an eternal impact. 2023 was my first full season since buying it from the family and it’s one I’ll never forget.
It was full of challenges, but also full of God’s provision and miracles. There were days when I wasn’t sure how things would turn out, but each time I kept trusting and listening to God, things turned around.
2024 wasn’t much different, but God still raised some of the best crops that farm had ever seen. I can see now that what others saw as a “poor old farm” was actually a place where God was working all along.
When life gives you what others might call “bad dirt,” remember that God can make something beautiful grow in it.
Always listen to the one who created us, because when He’s guiding you, even the most unlikely of lands can yield abundance.
God’s timing is always perfect. When we trust in Him and let Him guide us, we’ll see that He can turn the impossible into something amazing!
