Lia Elizabeth: “Taking Care of You in a Busy World”

In today’s world, it feels like life never slows down. Between work, kids, errands, and events, the days can blur together until weeks have passed and we realize we haven’t stopped to truly take a breath.

In our small communities where everyone knows everyone and we’re all used to lending a helping hand, it can be especially easy to put others first and push our own needs to the back of the line.

But here’s the truth: taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s necessary. Just like we can’t pour from an empty cup, we can’t give our best to our families, friends, or jobs if we’re running on empty.

Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for others is to pause and do something that fills our own soul.

For me, I’ve learned the power of the little things. Sometimes it’s lacing up my shoes and heading out for a run while blasting my favorite song in my headphones.

It gives me space to think and breathe. Other times, it’s treating myself to a facial, letting the stress melt away for an hour.

And then there are days when all I need is my favorite coffee from my favorite place, which may seem small, but it brightens my mood and reminds me to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Self-care doesn’t have to be grand or expensive. It can be as simple as sitting outside in the evening air, reading a few pages of a good book, or going for a walk with a friend.

What matters most is giving yourself permission to step away from the rush of life and do something that restores you.

In the end, taking care of you isn’t about being selfish, it’s about being healthy. It’s about showing up as the best version of yourself for the people who count on you most.

And in a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is slow down, breathe, and remember we’re worth taking care of too.
