Heat Football Kicks Off Season Friday in Biggsville

West Central High School football kicks off its 20th season this Friday night, August 29, against West Carroll in Biggsville.

This will be the fifth full season of 8-man football for West Central, as the Heat’s inaugural season was cut short due to the pandemic.

The Heat have compiled a 28-13 record over the last four seasons, highlighted by a state championship in 2022.

Last season, West Central returned to the playoffs after a one-year hiatus, finishing 6-4 after losing to eventual champion Amboy in the first round.

West Carroll, competing in its second year of 8-man football, went 8-3 in its first season, falling to Polo in the second round of the playoffs.

Both teams are expected to finish in the top third of the 33-team league, with West Central ranked 10th and West Carroll 8th in preseason polls.

For this high-level matchup, West Central will honor the military. All active and retired military members will receive free admission to the game.

The Illinois National Guard will be present with a cannon to fire after each Heat score. A fireworks display will follow the game.

This exciting season opener promises a competitive game and a memorable evening celebrating community and military service.
