Board Hears of New Solar Project Near Hamilton

Mike Thompson, chairman of the Hancock County Democratic party, spoke at the Hancock County Board at their regular meeting April 15.

Thompson addressed the federal funding cuts that are being made, saying he believes people of the county may begin to feel the pinch of these cuts in the loss of services.

He urged the County Board to look ahead to what they may need to do to help.

The board approved an engin-eering agreement with Klingner and Associates to perform bridge inspections, which are required every six years.

About 34 bridges in the county need to be checked at close “arms length” range. ?The board approved renting a snooper platform to use for making the inspections, costing $7,000 per week.

Alex Farkes of 22C Development, LLC, presented information on a solar panel project called Hamilton Sun, LLC.

It is located just east of Hamilton, south of Rt. 136 in Section 28 of Montebello Township, owned by the David Mack Endres Trust.

Being within a mile and a half from Hamilton city limits, Farkes said he will be talking with Hamilton city council to explain the project.

Hamilton Sun will generate up to 5 megawatts for Ameren. Justin Greeley from Bellwether has done the solar review on the project.

The board approved the siting of the project.

The board is currently in discussions with Memorial Hospital regarding a proposed contract for transfer of patients.

A 90-day extension to their current contract was approved while these negotiations continue.

The board accepted contract bonds from W.L Miller for oil and chip maintenance of county roads this summer.

Two intergovernmental agreements with the City of Macomb were approved related to operation of the Hancock County Public Transportation Services.

Supervisor of Assessments Mike McVey was given authority to charge for digital maps prepared for commercial use through his office’s GIS system.

The board approved repair to be done on the county boardroom clock.
