The Carthage Middle School 7th grade girls volleyball team claimed 2nd place at the IESA 7-2A state tournament in Brimfield last weekend.
The Bluegirls knocked off previously unbeaten Peoria Christian in two sets, 25-17, 25-13 in the quarterfinals. Josie Moore led the way with 12 service points and 3 aces followed by Hallie Jacob who finished with 10 service points and 1 ace.
In the semifinals, Carthage won in straight sets yet again, defeating Springfield Christian 25-18 and 25-22. Jacob finished the match with 4 aces and 14 service points to help the Bluegirls advance to the finals.
In the finals against Morrisonville, Carthage would fall in straight sets 15-25, 9-25. The Bluegirls finished the season with a record of 20-6.
