Stronghurst Village Board Sets Trick-or-Treat Night

By: Shirley Linder, Executive Editor

The Village of Stronghurst board, which met on Monday, October 6th, set Friday, October 31st from 5-7 for Treat-or-Treat night in Stronghurst.

In the guest section of the meeting Dennis Day thanked the board for fixing the road in front of his house.

Also speaking was Brian Kane with a question as to what constituents an inoperable vehicle. A discussion of vehicles not running, not licensed, not moving periodically and unsightly all played into the discussion that followed. Having several cars and demo cars in his yard, Kane stated all would start and could be moved if necessary periodically. The board agreed to look into the legal description further as to what constitutes an inoperable vehicle.

Ronnie Gittings told the board they are down to hauling two loads of water a week. This is hauled on the day he does the backwashing of the system. The well is currently pumping 90 gallons of water per minute and with usage down to between 54,000 and 58,000 gallon per day the well is keeping up.

He also told the board they have a septic tank that needs cleaned out as tree roots have grown into it. However, the electric line and frontier telephone lines are underground and run across the top of the septic tank causing a problem.

Arbry Vancil’s police report included: 29 hours worked; 8 training hours; 110 miles on the squad car; 3 service calls, and 8 business checks. He reported to the board he has a continuing education class in November and 8 hours online to do.

Chuck Neff has reported patrons of Laila’s are parking up next to his building and are throwing out cans and trash that has to be picked up before mowing.

Neff and Laila’s have both agreed they would like a parking area made on the village property on that side of the street. Mayor Brendan Schaley suggested putting gravel between the two culverts and create angle parking. The board agreed to the suggestion.

In other business the board:
