Vancil Participates in Illinois Youth Tour to Washington D.C.

Drake Vancil, son of Sherri Vancil and Arbry Vancil, participated in the Illinois Youth to Washington Tour from June 16th to June 23rd.

This annual event has been coordinated by the NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) since 1964.

In March, Drake attended Youth Day in Springfield with two other students from the WIEC (Western Illinois Electrical Cooperative) region after an initial application was submitted.

At Youth Day, students were interviewed and cooperative delegates were selected to move forward to the Youth Tour in Washington D.C.

Drake was chosen as our local representative and enjoyed a week long trip to Washington D.C. with 48 other high school delegates from across the state.

He enjoyed touring Gettysburg and Washington D.C. While in Washington D.C., Drake experienced the Smithsonian museums, Arlington National Cemetery, Ford’s Theater, the National Holocaust Museum, the National Zoo, and the National Mall. The group also toured the White House, the US Supreme Court, and the US Capitol.

This was a once in a lifetime experience that created many great memories. Drake would recommend eligible high school students to apply!

Drake will be a senior at West Central High School in the fall.
