The past week brought tragedy to our nation that should shake every heart. Charlie Kirk, a conservative Christian activist known for his powerful voice on college campuses, was senselessly shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. It was a tragic loss of a father, son, and brother in Christ.
This senseless act stole the life of a man simply because someone didn’t agree with his opinion. Charlie Kirk wasn’t armed with anything more than his words and his convictions, and yet that was enough to make him a target. You may not all have shared the same views as him, but in America, disagreement should never be a death sentence. When we reach a point where differing opinions lead to violence, we’ve lost sight of what it means to be a free people, and we’ve certainly lost sight of the command to love our neighbor.
In small towns like ours, we may feel removed from the big national stage. But the anger, the division, the animosity we see in national politics and media eventually trickles down to every community, every family, every friendship. It grows out of words, rumors, and resentments where people stop seeing their neighbor as someone made in the image of God and see them as an enemy instead.
But here’s the truth: what the devil meant for evil, God can turn for good. The enemy may have thought this violence would discourage people of faith, but the opposite has happened. Across the country, churches saw pews filled more than ever in the days after. People came together to worship, to pray, and to proclaim that hatred will not win. Satan may have thought this would ruin us, but instead it has pushed us closer to the cross.
In the end, please remember this greater truth: Jesus is the one true King. No power, no government, no hatred, no evil can stand against Him. Kingdoms rise and fall, but Christ remains. If we are to restore our country, it won’t be through politics alone or human strength, but it will be by bowing our knees to the Lord and trusting Him to heal what is broken.
God Bless America, and God bless the Kirk family.
