This week, I came across an image that stopped me right in my tracks. It said, “If you are not hungry for Jesus, you are probably too full of yourself.” Simple words, but wow did they speak volumes to me.
In a world where distractions tug at us from every direction, it’s easy to fill ourselves up with everything but what matters. I’m just as guilty. I find myself filling my mind with opinions online, my schedules with busyness, and my hearts with worries I wasn’t meant to carry. Before we know it, there’s not much room left for God. Not because He isn’t reaching for us, but because we’ve piled so much of “us” on top of Him.
Living in a small town doesn’t make us immune, either. We’re surrounded by familiar faces and familiar routines, but even in the simplicity of small-town life, it’s possible to become spiritually cluttered. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own thoughts, goals, or frustrations that we forget to check our hearts and ask, “Am I still hungry for Jesus?”
That quote reminded me that hunger for Christ doesn’t just happen on its own. It grows when we make space for Him. Sometimes we need to humble ourselves, slow down, and recognize that we need Him more than anything else we try to fill ourselves with. It’s a call to look inward and ask what needs to shift. What needs to be set aside? What part of “me” is taking up space that should belong to Him?
The beautiful thing is that Jesus never forces His way in. He simply waits for us to make room, and when we do, He fills us with peace, purpose, and a strength we could never create on our own.
This week, that little image reminded me to take a step back and reevaluate what I’m filling myself with. Maybe it’s time to push aside the noise, the pride, the stress, and make space for the One who can truly satisfy.
Because at the end of the day, the more room we make for Jesus, the more our lives begin to reflect Him. And that’s something worth staying hungry for.
