I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I’ll see something on social media and suddenly NEED it.
A new outfit, a trendy home gadget, the “must-have” new face cream that will suddenly age me back 10 years.
Before I know it, I’ve hit “add to cart,” convinced this one thing will bring me joy, or comfort, or a sense of belonging.
But the truth is, that kind of joy never lasts long. The packages pile up, the shelves fill up, and the feeling of contentment I thought I was buying seems to fade faster each time.
We live in a world that tells us we’re just one purchase away from happiness. Advertisements, influencers, and even some of our friends make it seem like more is better, that our worth is somehow tied to what we own or wear.
But deep down, we know that’s not true. The more we chase “stuff,” the emptier we can feel.
Jesus said in Luke 12:15, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
That verse hits home, doesn’t it? Life isn’t about having the biggest house, the newest sneaker , or the perfect outfit. It’s about having peace in our hearts, love in our homes, and gratitude for what we already have.
When we shift our focus from collecting things to collecting moments with God, family, and friends, our souls start to feel lighter. There’s a quiet joy that comes from realizing that “enough” really is enough.
I’m learning that contentment isn’t found in a shopping cart, but rather it’s found in Christ.
And maybe, just maybe, the next time I feel that little tug to buy something I don’t need, I can pause and ask myself: Is this something I want, or am I searching for something only God can fill?
In a world that constantly says “buy more,” let’s be the kind of people who say, “thank you, Lord, I already have enough.”
