LH-DC Girls Basketball Wins Sand Valley Tournament

Both the 7th and 8th-graders took home hardware after winning the Sand Valley Conference tournament hosted by West Central Middle School in Stronghurst.

The 7th grade squad cruised to victory with a 47-5 win over West Prairie.

The Cyclones struggled with the Eagles’ pressure defense, scoring only 5 points, all in the 3rd quarter, and committing 22 turnovers.

Maci Wibbell led the charge with 17 points, followed by Alex Miller, who stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 7 rebounds (5 offensive), 6 assists, and 4 steals.

Madi McCarter added 4 points and 6 rebounds, and Jamie Heath tallied 4 points and 5 rebounds.

The 8th graders faced a tougher challenge as they held off the host, West Central, 30-25.

Trailing by one after the 1st quarter, the Eagles created some separation in the 2nd quarter, outpacing the Heat 15-6, and that was enough to hold off West Central.

Aly Wibbell and Alex Miller led the Eagles in scoring with 9 points apiece. Journey Miller was a force on the glass, snagging 12 rebounds while also scoring 6 points, dishing out 4 assists, and forcing 4 steals.

Both the 7th and 8th-graders wrap up the regular season this week.

They both look to make deep runs in the postseason as they will have home-court advantage, with La Harpe hosting both Regionals and Sectionals for both grade levels.

Regionals for the 7th graders begin on Saturday, November 22nd, with the 8th grade beginning on Monday, December 1st.
