Stronghurst Board Sets Time For Parade

By: Shirley Linder, Executive Editor

At the November 3rd Village of Stronghurst board meeting, David Knutstrom inquired as to the exact time the Christmas lighted parade to be held on December 5th would begin.

He stated the Community Senior Citizens would be holding a soup supper starting at 5 p.m. that evening. Paige Torrance stated normally the parade started at 6 p.m. but following some discussion it was agreed to start the parade at 6:30 p.m. giving people ample time to have a meal.

Ronnie Gittings reported due to low usage of water right now they are able to keep up without hauling water twice a week. The well is pumping 90 gallon per minute and as long as usage does not go up into the high 60s they should be good and not have to haul water.

He also stated the septic tank problem had been solved by having the wires removed from across it and now they would concentrate on removing the tree roots from the tank.

The police report for October included: 21 hours worked; 2 training hours; 30 miles on squad car.

Mike Bohnenkamp gave the October financial report in the amount of $2,638.63 to the good.

Diana Doran of Doran Insurance had met with the board earlier and went over the insurance coverage for the village. The board voted to accept the bid of $22,444 for insurance for the coming year.

The adoption of the levy ordinance was postponed until next month when the attorney will be available at 5:30 p.m. December 1st for a public hearing meeting on the levy. The board will vote on the ordinance during the regular meeting which begins at 6 p.m.

Sidewalk repairs in front of the Eric Chockley residence was postponed until spring, due to weather not being conductive for pouring cement at this time.

Doug Erikson of Benton Engineering reported they had a busy, but very frustrating month in regard to dealing with the new well situation. He stated they will be surveying the railroad property and highway property soon. The EPA has not approved the usage of the temporary well. The biggest concerns at present are title works, easements, and funding. The board and Erikson will be meeting on Wednesday, November 19th at 6 p.m.  to discuss the issues in more depth.

The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 1st.
