Meet your neighbor county board member, Michelle Merritt. Michelle was born in Japan, where her father was in the Air Force.
She lived in Oklahoma City, OK until she was 13 when her family moved to Carthage where she currently resides with her husband, Matt.
Michelle’s has 3 siblings, 2 younger brothers and 1 younger sister.
She attended and graduated from Carthage High School in 1986. After high school she attended Robert Morris College, and then went to work at Methode Electronic as a secretary. Michelle later worked as a Data Specialist at the Hancock County Health department.
Michelle met her husband Matt while in high school and they have been married 36+ years.
Together they have 6 beautiful children, who all live in the area.
Jordan is married to Brooke and they have two boys and a girl that keep them busy. Jordan loves to golf, spend time with family and friends, and watching Illini sports.
Morgan is married to Aric and they have two boys. She has a t-shirt business that keeps her busy, along with chasing boys. She enjoys creating and decorating, along with family time.
Madison is married to Nick and they have three little boys. Madi enjoys baking, spending time with family and friends, and all things Fall.
Jackson is engaged to Mia. They will be married next year. Farming is his passion. Selling show cows and fitting show cows is his hobby.
McKenna is a teacher at IWHS and is engaged to Austin. They will marry next summer as well. McKenna loves to hang with friends, golf, and spend time reading.
Mylee is their college kid. She’s currently dancing on a scholarship at Iowa Central in Ft. Dodge, IA. Spending time with friend and family along with dancing and shopping are among her favorite things to do.
Michelle’s family loves to get together to enjoy a meal or just hang out and enjoy each other’s company.
Michelle wears many hats. She is a farm wife-bookkeeper, errand runner, and cook. She is a grandma to 8 blessings whom she watches. She teaches fitness at a studio in Carthage.
Michelle also works for the great citizens of Hancock County as an elected Board Member in District 1.
Michelle has been a 4-H leader for 20+ years. She has taught CCD at the Catholic Church in Carthage for 15+ years, and has helped with a local haunted house that raise money for many different organizations for 17 years.
Michelle loves to read when she has time, plus workout.
Summertime spent poolside is a favorite, along with vacationing with her husband. Playing with her grandkids brings Michell so much joy and keeps her young!
