La Harpe City Council Discusses Ordinance Enforcements

The La Harpe City council met for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on May 12, at 7 p.m.

Answering roll call were Dave Clover, Marvin Miller, Randy Shumaker, Todd Stevens, Jim Lenix, Treasurer-Monalisa Graves, City Clerk-Lucretia McPeak, and Mayor Katherine Hasten-Reed. Amanda Donaldson was absent.

Also present: Tim Edwards, Dan Gillett, Tim Graves, Michael Rodeffer, Jim Ford, Jeanette Ford, and David Little.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Jim Ford brought up the fact that if nothing is going to be enforced, then why have a Police Department. He doesn’t understand why Ordinances aren’t being addressed.

There was a very lengthy discussion on the matter, and starting June 1st, Ordinances will be enforced for everyone.

The property on B street was commented on. Jim commended whoever was mowing the property It was asked if the City would pick up, or provide a dumpster to clean it up. It will be on the June agenda to discuss the issue.

It was also brought up that dogs are defecating in the City Cemetery. There should be NO pets in the City Cemetery.

Jeanette inquired about the burnt blue house on the east edge of town. Alderman Shumaker will look into it.

Newly elected Alderman Jim Lenix-Ward 1, and Todd Stevens-Ward 2, were sworn in by City Clerk McPeak and seated with the council.
