Blandinsville came to life this past Saturday when 120 bikes showed up on Main Street for Silvie’s Ride. They came to town to raise awareness about child and domestic abuse.
Hog lips were served at Two Doors Down. Sandwiches were sold in the parking lot across the street from Slup’s to raise money for the Farmer’s Picnic. Silvie Yocum lost her life at the hands of her abuser in 2006 at the age of five.
Silvie’s Mom, Erin Yocum, stated that Silvie was wonderful. She stated that the day was hard but also beautiful and she could not thank everyone enough.
Erin also said that she was so proud of everybody and knew that Silvie was too. Silvie’s grandfather started Silvie’s Ride so he could raise money to help children and women that have experienced abuse.
Jamie Cudd, the President of the Knights Motorcycle Riding Club stated that they decided to support Silvie’s Ride so they could help out with the cause as much as they could. Silvie’s grandfather is now one of the members of Knights Motorcycle Riding Club. Silvie’s Ride is an all day event.
At 7:00 AM they had breakfast at the Elk’s Lodge in Macomb. The police then escorted them through town and onto Twisted in St. Augustine.
The police escort ended there. The riders then headed to Twisted Too Bar and Grill in Roseville. Their final stop was in Blandinsville before heading back to Macomb for a Silent Auction at 6:30 PM.
Proceeds from the auction go to WIRC, Safe Harbor, and Samaritan Well.
