Heavy Rains Soak Area Friday and Saturday

Most of the area saw heavy rain Friday and Saturday. The National Weather Service reported 3.64 inches in Fort Madison, IA, 3.28 inches in La Harpe, and 2.53 inches in Burlington, IA.

Some areas received more than 5 inches over those 48 hours. With this rainfall, some parts of the area are at 200–300% of normal precipitation for July.

Ameren reported power outages in parts of southern Henderson County and northern Hancock County early Saturday morning and into the afternoon.

The combination of heavy rains and power outages led to water in the basements of many local residents.

Despite many creeks and rivers spilling over their banks, no major washouts or damages have been reported.

The weather disrupted several local events, including the Henderson County Fair.

Fortunately, the show went on, as fairgoers who didn’t mind a little mud enjoyed performances by Jake & Mikayla and Tyler Farr.

Unfortunately, Saturday’s Figure 8 race was postponed due to the rainfall. The makeup date is set for Friday, September 12, at 6:30 p.m.
