When God Closes one Door, He Opens a Better One

Ryan Wilhite, La Harpe

I did some scouting with my son last month, before we went on vacation. I was able to teach him about the different leaf stages, weeds, management practices and side dressing corn.

We spent time praying out loud, over the crops and about the season ahead. Talking about a relationship with God and how important it is to let Him guide every little detail in our life.

My 8 year old inspires me with how much faith he has. When he prays, there is no doubt in his mind that God has the power to answer them, but also the understanding that His timing and plans are always perfect.

The Bible tells us we need to have that same child like faith too.

Proverbs 22:6 says “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

It’s so crucial that we lead by example, they’re paying a lot more attention than we’ll ever realize.

Always show the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Maybe you’ve messed up in those areas, repent and ask God to help you start new today.

Even if you aren’t married yet or don’t have kids, the world is watching and the way we live should point people to Christ.

I grew up in church every Sunday, prayed from time to time and viewed God as this thing up in the sky, far away with no power.

Looking back I was just checking boxes, but no relationship with Him. I thought He only loved me when I did good and was disappointed with my sins.

Basically working my way to heaven, but the reality is, no one will ever be perfect and that weight is too much to bear on our own.

I’m not sure where this came from, but many people struggle with the same exact thing.

Ask God to help you teach the next generation differently about God’s love and that their identity is in Christ alone and nothing else.

Knowing that you are a son or daughter of God, is a game changer.

I had an amazing father growing up and we’re still best friends today, working along side each other on the farm.

I was raised by two great parents, in a good environment and still strayed from God in my late teens.

If you had that same view about God growing up, maybe it’s because of how your earthly father was or other people in your life treated you.

Whatever the reason is, you need to realize that our Heavenly Father loves you more than we can comprehend and will never fail us, as people here on earth have.

God wants a personal relationship with you and never stops chasing after us.

He loves us unconditionally and sent His only son to die on the cross for you. I had no clue what the Holy Spirit was either.

We should be living in the spirit every single day and letting God work through us.

When we open our hearts to Him, He lives inside of us. Talk about amazing!

Being kingdom minded and letting Him guide the way is what He longs for us to do.

When we stumble, we should run to Him, not away as many people do. Once I realized how much God loves me, life began to change.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Lead by example and don’t forget to teach your kids and others what truly matters in life and how deeply God loves them.
