The Village of Gladstone held their monthly board meeting on July 14, 2025 at the Community Building in Gladstone at 7PM.
The pledge to the flag was recited in unison.
Roll call was taken and all were present: Board members - Debbie Blake, Mike Blake, Valerie Goff, Brett Dewitt, Darlene Manes, Jeremiah Bielser; Mayor Randy Goble and Clerk Debbie Palmer.
Bob Cravens, Water Department rep, reported the concern on Walnut Street regarding overhanging branches/trees blocking visibility.
Andy Youngquist, attorney for the village, advised that if the issue is in the right-of- way that they can be trimmed/cut legally by the village.
Youngquist suggested to give seven business days to property owners to clean their yards up.
Cravens reported that Advanced Plumbing would check out the storm drain issue within the week. J.U.L.I.E. has already marked where all the underground utilities are located.
The hot water heater at the park shelter house was reported fixed.
Cravens also reported that the electronics at the well site was okay now since lightning had struck; and a massive water leak on the north end of town due to a water meter no longer in use.
A motion was made by Debbie Blake to have Cravens read three water meters which belong to Sebastian, Olson, and the car wash on northwest end of town, seconded by Bielser. Motion unanimously carried.
Thanks was given to Cravens for installing the new up-to-date blinds in the community building.
Dee Moorman has taken the reigns to keep homecoming festivities a continued annual event which will be Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd.
Friday night at the shelter house smoked pulled pork dinners will be available for purchase starting at 5 p.m. Included will be Edna’ pies and Pal’s desserts.
On the same night from 7 to 11 p.m. there will be a street dance with the ‘3rd Violation Band’ playing.
Saturday night will feature the fireman’s’ fish and chicken fry. The Band ‘Ghost of Judas’ will entertain for another night of street dancing.
There will be raffle tickets available for a chance to win cash prizes.
No alcohol will be permitted in the village park or on any village owned property.
Bielser entertained a motion for the village to donate $800 for one night’s band during homecoming and was seconded by Goff. Motion carried unanimously.
Dewitt reported that the playground slide had been repaired.
Dewitt mentioned that there are a couple holes at the park that will require dirt being filled in; and that the bottom east side of the stage has been broken for the third time. The current lattice will be replaced with steel panels attached to prevent breakage by anyone.
Motion by Darlene for approval of the previous meetings minutes as read by Clerk Palmer, seconded by Goff. Motion by Debbie Blake to approve the treasurer’s report as read by Palmer, seconded by Mike Blake. Motion by Goff to approve the bills, seconded by Debbie Blake. Al three motions were carried unanimously.
New business included discussion on the tree at the playground where a limb had fallen on a swing. It was decided to get an estimate on the possible removal of the tree.
Entertaining a motion by Goff to adjourn at 8:30 PM with seconding by Debbie Blake was unanimously carried.
Also in attendance was attorney Youngquist, Bob Cravens, Dee Moorman, and media Joyce Kuntz-Hetrick.
The Village of Gladstone’s next monthly meeting will be the second Monday night in August at 7 p.m., which is Aug. 11.
