Fountain Green Fire Department Honors Retirees

By Darren Spangler, Secretary/Treasure

At the June meeting of the Fountain Green Fire Department, they acknowledged the many years of two firemen that have retired in 2025.

Steve Eaves served many years starting in 1984. Even though Steve missed some time because of health issues years ago, his dedication and faithfulness to serve will be missed!

For many years, when calls came in they could count on Steve being the first one there having trucks running and doors open ready to go!

In an unofficial vote, Steve had been considered the Fountain Green MVP for many years, responding to a large amount of all the fire calls!

Ricky Johnson had completed over 45 years on the Department.  Most of these years serving as Chief.

Ricky has served more years than any other firefighter since the Department was founded in 1970!  Serving as Chief most of these years, Ricky had overseen many emergency calls and fires!

His dedication and experienced wisdom has been a major blessing to the community that he has volunteered to serve.

Last year Tom Todd retired from the Department.  Tom served many years at the La Harpe and Fountain Green departments.

Tom’s cool demeanor and experience was a huge asset to the Department.

Although they’ve lost several dedicated long serving firefighters in the last year, Fountain Green has been fortunate enough to have some great community focused individuals step up and fill those positions.

They are very lucky to live in a community, where folks will sacrifice their time and energy to volunteer to serve neighbors so selflessly!
