The Village of Stronghurst asked its residence Monday night to limit their water usage as the village attempts to mitigate a water level issue. That was followed by an announcement Tuesday afternoon of a boil order beginning today (Wednesday) and going until at least Tuesday, March 4th.
Iron buildup in the village's well, a 70 foot well dug in 2013, had restricted the water flow and the pump could not keep a consistent water level in the water tower.
Under normal conditions, the well pump fills the tower at 114 gallons a minute. As of Monday, the well is only pumping at 60 gallons a minute.
While this issue is being resolved, the village will be trucking in water from the Dallas City Rural Water District who has a hydrant near the Raritan junction on Highway 94..
There is also a 1009 foot well where the old water tower once stood that provides non-potable water. This well was dug in 1915 when the original water tower was constructed.
