The Illini West Varsity Boys Basketball Team got two more wins at home this past week to extend their winning streak to 7 and improve their home record to 10-1 on the season.
Illini West hosted Rushville-Industry on Wednesday, February 19th in Carthage for Senior Night. After a tight 1st quarter, the Chargers ratcheted up the defense in the 2nd allowing only 5 points on their way to an 24-17 halftime lead.
The Chargers would go on to outpace the rockets by 10 in the second half to pull away with a 57-40 win.
Senior guard Tre Neiderman led the way with 6 threes and 22 total points. Junior forward Wesley Robertson added 12 points and 8 rebounds and Junior guard Ethan Carlisle finished with 6 points and 8 assists.
IW opened Regional action last Monday night with a 51-36 victory over Pittsfield. The Saukees held tough in the 1st half trailing by only 5, but the Chargers would dominate the 3rd quarters outscoring Pittsfield 11 to 3 on their way to a 15 point victory.
“We did some good things, defensively. We let them score too easily in the first four minutes, maybe it was jitters but we adjusted,” Catch Blaize Kimmell told The Herald-Whig’s Dorian Ducre. “We had a really balanced game Ethan did some big things, Tre and Wesley did some big things tonight.”
Robertson would finish with a game high, 15 points followed by 14 from Carlisle.
With the victory, the Chargers (23-8) head down to Pittsfield to take on top seed Williamsville (27-3) tonight (Wednesday) at 6:00 p.m.
