Brief Board Meeting Covers Resignations, ‘New Illinois’ Referendum, and Auditor Search

Andrew Postle, The Quill

The Henderson County Board held its regular meeting Tuesday morning, December 9, at the Henderson County Courthouse in Oquawka. Members present were Richard Bigger Jr., Patty Daniels, Brad Flatt, Kim Gullberg, Bill Knupp, Kurt McChesney, Deborah Pflasterer, and Janet Stubbs. Jon Corzatt and Will Pruett were absent.

The board unanimously approved the minutes from the November 25 meeting, travel expenses for Deputy Chris Spears, the monthly treasurer’s report, the resignation of county board member Todd Miller effective November 24, 2025, and the Health Department claims and minutes.

The board briefly discussed the “New Illinois” Referendum for the November 2026 election. Richard Whitman was not present at the meeting to discuss further details, so the matter was tabled for a later meeting.

The board also briefly discussed the pursuit of a new auditor, as the current one is retiring. It was mentioned that there are very few options, as there are not many people doing county audits. For the next meeting, the board hopes to have a clearer picture of what they are looking for and how to go about hiring a new auditor.

It was noted that interviews are being held for a new administrator for the Henderson County Health Department. They had several candidates, but only two so far have been chosen to be interviewed.

There was a brief discussion on when and how often Sheriff Department meetings are held. They discussed trying to have at least one a quarter, as they are currently sporadic and held two to three times a year.

The short meeting adjourned at approximately 8:50 a.m.

The next regular Henderson County Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at the Henderson County Courthouse in Oquawka.
