The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

Letter To the Editor

Dear Editor,

I'm writing to bring attention to an ongoing and deeply troubling situation just north of Hamilton. For several months now, three aggressive German Shepherds have been terrorizing our neighborhood. These dogs have not only caused serious injuries but have left residents feeling unsafe in their own yards. These dogs have attacked pets, injured a horse, and most recently killed a cat.

One neighbor’s service dog was nearly killed. I myself have been cornered in my garage by them, and another neighbor was nearly attacked while mowing his lawn.

These incidents are not isolated. They’re part of a dangerous pattern. Worse still, the dogs were taken to the dog park in Keokuk, Iowa, where they bit a child badly enough that the child had to undergo rabies treatment.

Despite repeated reports to the Sheriff's office and the State’s Attorney, no action has been taken.

Many of us have contacted the authorities, and I’ve personally brought this issue to two recent board meetings over the past two months.

Still, we’re left without help or answers. We're scared. People no longer feel safe letting their children play outside or walking their own pets.

This is unacceptable. We urge the local authorities and animal control to take this issue seriously before someone else—another child, a pet, or an adult—is seriously hurt or worse.
