At the regular board meeting of the Village of Stronghurst on Monday, August 4th, the trustees viewed pictures of properties that are in need of being cleaned up.
The pictures and list were given to Police Chief Arbry Vancil who will notified the owners of the need for cleanup. If not cleaned up in ten days time, a written warning notice will be given.
Water Superintendent Ronnie Gittings reported they had hauled water every day of the week in order to get the tower filled to its normal capacity. Having achieved this around 3 p.m. he headed down to his farm to do some mowing.
However, at 6 p.m. he received a call from Clerk Brittany Smith informing him there was a water problem. He stated they discovered a leak out along the highway and had lost 60,000 gallons of water in 3 hours.
The ditch was filled with water, which had to be pumped out in order to work on the pipe.
Thanks to all the help that arrived, the situation was fixed and under control around 12:30 that night.
Gittings original plan for filling the water tower was that once filled, they would only have to haul water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. But now will need to haul daily for another week to get it back to capacity.
Police report included: 49 hours worked between Arbry Vancil and Danny Moore during the fair; 61 miles on the squad car; 6 service calls; and 8 business checks.
Doug Erickson of Benson & Associates was present to report on the new well. Brockte, who dug the well, hasn’t gotten the work done as quickly as they had hoped for.
They are having some issues with Brockte due to the fact that they only brought a pump that pumps 10 gallon per minute.
The engineers need to know that the well is capable of doing between 150 and 200 gallons per minute before proceeding with the rest of the installation.
Brockte has provided a good formation and good quality water samples but has not proven the well will produce 200 gallon of water a minute.
Brockte has agreed to come and purge the well, do some treatment as well as bring a larger pump to determine if the well will pump enough for their need before proceeding on a million dollar water main.
The water test results were received around 4 p.m. on Monday and Erickson had not had time to study them but with a quick scan he had not seen any red flags.
A meeting was set for Tuesday, August 19th , at 6 p.m. to meet with Erickson again to go over more details.
