Oquawka to Explore Addition of Pickleball Courts

The Oquawka Village board held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 1st. Present were Trustees Don rice, Brock Miller, Tammy Bundy, Troy Jern; Acting Village President Scott Ray; Village Attorney Andy Youngquist; Village Clerk Callie Thacker-Matsko; and Village Water Clerk Carey Thacker. Trustee Shawn Hurt was absent.

STAFF REPORT

 New water meters that are being installed in Phase 2 of the water project will go online immediately and will start billing usage at the next billing cycle after installation. It was hoped that the billing process would begin after all meters were installed in Phase 2, but the billing software will not allow for that.

ATTORNEY REPORT

Youngquist stated he would save his report for the closed session.

STREETS AND WATER

A long discussion about the logistics of providing water to Delabar Park was had. No decisions were made.

Engineer Mike Greenlief announced Phase 2 of the water project was about 60% completed.

Ray gave special thanks to Shawn Lain and Lavediere Construction for their help in relieving a resident’s water problem during construction.

PARKS AND TOURISM

The first of five Farmer’s markets will be held May 3rd at Indian Park beginning at 9am. There a fundraiser breakfast that day at Indian Park. The breakfast will begin at 8:30am. The Farmer’s Market will continue to be held the 1st Saturday of the month through September.

 City wide yard sales will be May 2nd-4th and city wide cleanup will be May 10th.

A Pickleball court was discussed. The board has been granted $10,000 to go towards a pickleball court and a resident has pledged another $20,000 for the project. The Parks and Tourism Committee has offered to help with researching information about construction.

CLOSED SESSION

The board entered into a closed session to discuss the employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees. No action was taken after the closed session.
