Special Hancock County Board Approves Mr. Twist, Interim Assessor

A special meeting of the Hancock County Board was held at the courthouse in Carthage on September 4th.

The meeting was called to order by chairman Mark Menn at 5:45 p.m.. The invocation was given by Mr. Menn and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the county clerk. Roll call was taken. Those in attendance: Mark Menn, Chairman, Holly Wilde-Tillman, County Clerk with Board members: Tom Bergmeier, Michelle Merritt, Patsy Davis, Steve Finney, Wayne Bollin, Ryan Weeks, Mark Harrison.

Absent was Dennis Castlebury, Harry Douglas, Tom Rodgers, Steve Lucie, Alex Blythe, Mark Hanson, and Mark Turner.

The board entered discussion on a contract with Gary Twist to fulfill specific assessment office duties and training.

Mr. Twist will not be signing any documents as this will be up to the chairman, and he will be working remotely. He will use the current splits to train the current staff. Mr. Twist will make $4000/month which will come out of the assessor’s salary.

A motion to make Gary Twist the interim assessor starting September 18 was made by Ms. Davis, seconded by Mr. Weeks.

There is a candidate that has shown interest in this open position. A roll call vote was taken with all members present voting “yes”. Motion carried. Ms. Merritt made a motion to recess, seconded by Mr. Weeks. All approved and the special meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
