The Hancock -Henderson County Quilts of Valor ladies have been busy making quilts, holding a presentation at the Stronghurst Farmers Market on September 9th. They presented 10 quilts to veterans. Angela Myers read the Quilts of Valor story about how it all began. She was assisted by Peggy Chockley and Billie Smith of Stronghurst, Bev Thacker and Peggy Shutwell , Biggsville, Donna James, and Jan Gutting from La Harpe, and Connie Burgdorf of Media.
The honored veteran recipients were:
Terry Bielser-Stronghurst-US Army 1982-1990 at Fr. Bragg, North Carolina. He was a heavy wheel mechanic and served on the airfield seizure team.
Dwaine Sly-Stronghurst-US Army 1967-1969 in Vietnam on the signal corp.
Steve Bielser-Gladstone-US Army 1982-1988. Trained at Ft. Knox, Aberdeen Maryland, He served in Germany for 2 years on border duty. He finished at Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Tom Eisenmayer-Stronghurst/Anchorage, Alaska- US Air Force 1971-1978 in Alaska, then Arkansas, and returned to Alaska. He was in air traffic control.
Roger Schaley-Lomax-US Air Force 1963-1967. 3 years in Lincoln, Nebraska and the last year in VietNam.
Loren Willers-Oquawka-US Air Force 1970-1974. Trained in Marchfield, California. He served in Quam and Thailand. He was a vehicle driver and hauled bombs to the B52 planes.
Scott Kelly-Oquawka-US Army 1973-1977. Ft. Hood, Texas. He was in aviation and flew helicopters.
Tim Gray- Gladstone-US Army 1973-1980. Ft. Carson, Colorado. He served in Korea for 13 months and then returned to Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Mike Muhleman-Stronghurst-US Navy 1973-1977. USS Seabees. Stationed in Thurmont, Maryland. Worked in the public work office. He provided vehicle service to the President and dignitaries.
Bob Carlson-Roseville-National Guard, Galesburg 1969-1975.
It’s a passion of this group to award a Quilt of Valor to each and every veteran in Hancock and Henderson Counties.
