West Central Special Board Meeting

West Central Community Unit School District #235 held a special board meeting on October 1st at 6:00 p.m.

President Brendan Schaley was elected to be the presiding hearing officer and the board entered closed session pursuant to the Open Meeting Act-5 ILCS 120/1 et seq. to hear a student discipline case at 6:01 p.m.

On roll call the following members were present: Bigger, Chockley, Clark, Gullberg, Higgins, Schaley, and Vancil. Also present were Superintendent Day, Jason Kirby and parent of student #27004.

Mr. Kirby and the parent of student #27004 left at 6:23 p.m.

The board returned to open session at 6:24 p.m. and reconvened in the district office conference room at 6:25 p.m, with a quorum of board members plus Superintendent Day, Jason Kirby and parent of student #27004.

A motion was made by Bigger, seconded by Clark, that the 10-day out of school suspension for Student #27004 shall be upheld and that Student #27004 be expelled from West Central CUSD #235 for violating the District Student Handbook by verbally threatening students and through social media with images of a weapon

This expulsion is for two calendar years and shall be in abeyance in order to allow said student to attend alternative placement as determined by the IEP team.

Student #27004 may be eligible for reinstatement to West Central CUSD #235 on October 2, 2026, upon successful participation at the alternative school placement a final IEP team decision.

Until that time said student is not allowed on any West Central CUSD #235 campus or grounds for any reason. Motion carried 7-0.
