Board Approves Good Friday Procession

By: Shirley Linder, Executive Editor

Janet Bohnenkamp, representing the Stronghurst Christian Church, was at the Village of Stronghurst board meeting on February 7th.  She told the board that Good Friday services would be held at 12:00 on March 29th at the Lutheran Church. Following the service at around 1 p.m. they would like to have a procession going from the Lutheran Church to the middle school, then back to the Methodist Church, on to the Presbyterian Church and end at the Christian Church.

Someone would be carrying the cross and at each stop a prayer would be given and one verse of a hymn would be sung. They are looking into having a trailer with hay bales for those who want to participate but are unable to walk the distance. They were not requesting any streets be blocked off, but would like to have Arbry Vancil there to keep things safe. Bohnenkamp said these plans have not been finalized yet, but she would return to the board meeting next month with the final plans. The board approved the request.

A discussion was held on purchasing the rest of the 250 new water meters. Mike Swisher said the rate has gone up from around $80,000 to approximately $115,000 already and with the amount of water the village is losing, with the old meters, he would recommend they go ahead and purchase the 250.

They would be installed by the village workers. Mike Bohnenkamp made the motion to purchase the 250 inpoints and meters at a cost of $115,008, Paige Torrance seconded and the motion passed.
