LaHarpe Council Hear Reports at January 8th meeting

The regular scheduled monthly La Harpe City Coun cil meeting was called to order January 8, 2024 at 7 pm.

Mayor-Katherine Hasten-Reed opened the meeting with everyone reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Committee reports:

Finance reported they will inquire about the truck title.

ESDA will request equipment from FEMA.

Other reports:

David Little reported ordering Perma Patch.

Tim Graves reported the company he ordered meters through filed bankruptcy. He is currently looking for another company. The nursing home/rental is under new ownership. They need a new meter.

The cleaner for the RO came in and have started cleaning membranes. The cost is $4,400.00 to clean all 8 skids. Hopefully, the cleaner does the job.

Lynn Hoyt reported on animal control. There is a charge to house a dog. He’s looking into a “No kill” shelter.

City Clerk McPeak reported handing out a list of the Council meetings dates and times, and there is a copy posted at City Hall. She also had the council fill out the “Statement of Economic Interests”.

Treasurer Graves reported paying Industrial Motors, and the check returned, saying it was already paid. The Park District might have gotten the bill by mistake, and the City will reimburse them.

She reported “hitting a brick wall” over the retirement fund, and will check into switching to a different Northwestern Mutual agent.

Mayor Hasten-Reed reported for the City Attorney on miscommunication on a conference call with IMEG Attorneys.

She reported Bedwell Tree Service would like to be able to drop tree debris at the City burn pile at a determined fee per month. This will be on the next agenda.

She reported FEMA information is due by 1-19-2024. This could also include chain saws purchased. She went over Force accounts involving backhoe, trucks, utility trailer and Force Labor/Comp time. This would be $26,000.00 plus. She asked Aldermen if they wanted Force labor or donated time.

Max Owsley is working on FEMA signatures, and Mutual Aid from Adams County.

The Inspector was here to look at streets damaged from the storm. They could file an extension for 6th Street, since it is too early to repair at this time. She is working on documents and forms to submit to FEMA and making a spread sheet for the Council.

The mailboxes and electrical that were damaged on 6th Street were declined by Insurance, but will be submitted to FEMA.

There was a bid from MBS for a Pickle ball court for $36,000.00.

There was also a bid from MBS to tear down and redo the stage in the City Park for $26,715.00. This would not include railings or footings.

New Business:

The Cemetery mowing contract was discussed. There will be an ad put in the Quill and will be revisited on the agenda at the first meeting in February.

Other Discussion:

There will be a meeting at The Annex provided by Linea Energy on January 19, 2024.
