After loosing another business in downtown La Harpe months ago, word got around quickly about a new occupant to fill the former Traveler’s Inn (Tastee Freeze) building on 201 West Main Street. Much questioning was finally laid to rest when the sign stating “opening soon” appeared in the window.
The new LaHarpe Family Restaurant opened for business on February 5th with their first customers, Jim and Beverly King.
New owner is Efren Guel. Mr. Guel has one son who lives near Chicago. His niece is his new manager. She says, "Our goal is to serve you home cooked meals and grow our family by each and every customer who walks through the door. My uncle and I are not from LaHarpe, however he has been in the restaurant business for 30+ years. I have been waiting tables for 15 years!"
They reported having forty customers just the first half of their opening day, and have been busy since preparing everything from full breakfasts, daily specials, sandwiches and desserts.
As of now they have three servers, Destiny Shumaker, Madilyn Finch, and Nichol Johnson and looking for an experienced cook.
LaHarpe Family Restaurant is a full service establishment serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, Sundays 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.. They are a dine-in restaurant with carry out available phone (779) 329-0007. Find them on Face Book: “LaHarpe Family Restaurant” where you can see photos and their menu.
