Honorable Raymond A. Cavanaugh Elected Chief Judge of the 9th Judicial Circuit

Circuit Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh has been elected Chief Judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit. Cavanaugh was elected by his fellow Circuit Judges to a two-year term as Chief Judge.

Chief Judge Cavanaugh replaces Judge David L. Vancil Jr. who was recently assigned to the 4th District Appellate Court beginning on February 2nd.

Judge Cavanaugh served as Warren County Public Defender, Warren County State’s Attorney, and as Henderson County State’s Attorney from 2002 until his appointment as Associate Judge in 2010. Judge Cavanaugh was elected Circuit Judge in 2016 and has since held that position.

Cavanaugh graduated from Yorkwood High School, Monmouth, in 1983, and in 1986 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended John Marshall Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 1990.

The Ninth Judicial Circuit is comprised of six counties in Illinois:

Henderson, Hancock, Warren, Knox, McDonough, and Fulton.
