Randy Shumaker Elected As Mayor-Pro-Tem
During the November 25th La Harpe Council meeting, City Clerk Lucretia McPeak noted only 2 petitions were turned in.
Council members Todd Stevens and Jim Lenix turned their petitions in for the election in April, 2025. Marvin Miller, Randy Shumaker and Dave Clover’s terms will end on the 1st meeting in May, 2025. There will be 3 open seats. Any interested citizens may check with the county clerk at Carthage if they would like to be considered as a write-in on the ballot. Paper work would have to be filled out and signatures obtained to be eligible for a write-in.
Council entered executive session at 7:36 p.m. and returned to regular meeting at 8:10 p.m. Upon returning from executive session the council approved the sale of the senior citizen house. The house was auctioned off by Sullivan Auctioneers and received a high bid of $15,000 from Ronnie Covert.
Council unanimously approved Christmas bonuses of $200 for full-time employees and $100 for part-time employers.

Council discussed school speed zone signs and was still uncertain as to the final decision by the state. Stevens is going to call IDOT Engineer and get more details.
December 17th was set as a tentative date for the city employee Christmas dinner at the Annex.
Tim Graves noted more water samples will need to be taken in January.
Randy Shumaker noted 3 service lines to houses still need to be changed.
