Board Discusses Possibility Of Christmas Parade

By: Shirley Linder

At the September 5th Village of Stronghurst board meeting, Mike Swisher inquired about the possibility of a Christmas parade again this year. The Stronghurst Booster Club is in charge of the Christmas Open House on Friday, November 17th and the village board would like to host a parade on the same evening After much discussion as to when and what time, Paige Torrance and Nathan Harden volunteered to talk with the booster club and look into possibilities for a parade.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance by Mayor Brenda Schaley, followed by roll call, approval of last months minutes and approval of the bills to be paid.

Swisher reported the financial report for the month showed a balance of $11,813 to the good.

Guest David Knutstrom asked if the cameras in the park are operational and was told yes they were, however the new camera system has not been installed as yet. Knutstrom also, once again, brought up the lights for the pickle ball court, which have not been figured out yet.

Ronnie Gittings reported that the new water shut off valve at the fire station had been put in. He also reported the water level at the water plant is now at 30’.

Police Chief Arbry Vancil reported, the following for the month of August: 63.5 hours worked; 4 training hours; 328 miles on the squad car; 3 traffic stops-2 written warnings, 2 uniform traffic tickets; 8 service calls; village ordinance-verbal warning to Brokaws on their yard; and 22 business courtesy checks.

It was decided that Brokaw’s have had their verbal warning for 10+ days and will now be sent a written warning regarding the stuff in their yard and on the sidewalk. They will have 10 days to work on the problem before there will be a fine and a court date set.

A couple of items was tabled due the village attorney not being present.

Mayor Brendan Schaley reported the Veteran’s Memorial Fundraiser went well and $7,640 was raised. With the $3,000 they already have, they have enough to add the new tablets.
