West Central Middle School Hosts Veterans Day Assembly

The West Central Middle School presented their Veterans Day Assembly on November 10th at Stronghurst.

The program started with the Presentation of Colors by the Henderson County American Legion Post #765.

Claire Myers, West Central Middle School 7th grader welcomed the Veterans, teachers, students, and community.

The pledge of allegiance was led by the West Central Middle School Boy Scouts.

Following the pledge, the middle school band, under the direction of Ms Nannen, performed “This is my Country” and “My Country tis of Thee”.

Mason Schaley, 8th grader, gave the origin of Taps and the verses and the intro of the Armed Forces songs.

The program continued with the HS band, and the HS and Middle School choirs, under the direction of Mr. Ouellette, and Mrs. Scott, introduction of the military songs.

Irelynn Boyle, 8th grader spoke about “What is Veterans Day”.

A thank you was read to the veterans by Lily Higgins, 8th grader. Mason Schaley also read a Veterans Day poem.

A patriotic song entitled “Let Freedom Ring” was performed by the middle school choir.

“Homeward Bound” was sung by the High School choir.

The guest key note speaker, Brigadier General Roy Webb was introduced by West Central High School principal Jason Kirby. Brigadier General Roy Webb emphasized that some have had to understand what sacrifice means more than others and that our country and our freedoms are to be treasured by us all.

The WC High school band continued the music of “Union March” and “Champions Rising”.

The program closed with the retirement of colors, followed by closing remarks by Sara Ryner, WCMS principal. see page 12.
