Lions District Governor Visits La Harpe Lions

The LaHarpe Lions meet November 6 for their monthly meeting. Our special guest was

Mark Bean, our District Governor who shared his goals for this coming year.

He is raising money for “The Central Illinois Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

“They are a nonprofit organization serving people who are visually impaired in Central Illinois. They offer social and educational programs to meet the needs of individuals living with vision loss and attempt to connect them to applicable services/resources in and around our area. The CICBVI offers transportation to and from Center-sponsored events for patrons living within a 15-mile radius of 2905 W Garden St in Peoria, IL. Governor Bean told us that about 10% of our population has some sort of vision problem. He also mentioned that the Long White Cane which is used by blind persons was invented in Peoria!

Currently the motto of Lions is “We Serve.” But years ago it was a longer one built around an acronym of Lions: “Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nations Safety.”

The LaHarpe Lions voted to financially support the Governors project as well as the

Fortress Bank Christmas Tree.

Lions President Jerry Burford was giving an award from Governor Bean celebrating his bring two or more new members into the club this past year. President Jerry has exceeded that by two or three! He is our leading new member getter!!
