Harkey Resigns City Council

Lengthy Discussion On

Dogs Running Loose and

Abandoned Cars

At the regular scheduled monthly meeting held April 24th, Mayor Hasten-Reed read Kelly Harkey’s resignation as Alderman for Ward 3 effective 4-30-2023.

According to the La Harpe City Clerk's report of the meeting, Alderman Randy Shumaker’s term is up, and he will be available to be appointed to replace the seat for her remaining term, at the Mayor’s request.

This will be done at the next meeting when the newly elected council will be seated, and the action will be on the next agenda.

Mayor Hasten-Reed called the LaHarpe City Council meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Lynn Hoyt reported on Ordinance violations. There was a lengthy discussion on dogs running loose and abandoned cars. It was discussed that a warning would be issued first, then a fine, then dogs would be reported to County officers and the violator would have the County to deal with. The cars could go to Abatement after a fine.

Hoyt reported on Body Cams, and is looking into a program to rent them. He also gave an estimate on radios for $436.00.

La Harpe City Clerk McPeak reminded everyone that La Harpe's Spring Cleanup will be May 12th. She also reported on an email she received from IML concerning a “Civility Pledge”.

Treasurer Graves informed the council of the Library 18% replacement tax of $3,893.07 that wasn’t on the list of bills for approval.

The American Opportunity money report is due, and she is working on this with the Auditor, she reported.

The City has samples from the Lagoon for the IEPA violation.

There was discussion on the Sr. Citizen House, which is listed for sale. There was no action needed at this time.

There was an anonymous letter sent to the City concerning dogs barking.

The flag at the West berm has been ordered.

In other action La Harpe City Council unanimously approved:

Lenix made the motion to adjourn the regular meeting and Wisslead seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.

Regular meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
