At the Village of Biggsville board meeting on July 5th, there was much discussion on the delinquent water accounts. Jamie made a motion to change the due date to the 15th of each month. If it is not paid in full by the 15th of the next month by 10.00 a. m., it will automatically be shut off by noon. Chris 2nd motion carried. We will no longer send out notices for delinquent accounts. To get your services reinstated you are to pay the full amount plus $8.00 late fee and a $25.00 connect fee. We will make no exceptions. This will take effect October. Please make sure you have a "0" balance on your account by October 1, 2023.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor, Eric Craig with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes, invoices to be paid and treasurer report were all approved.
Zoning: One zoning permit was issued.
Streets/Water: Village will check with the radio stations to see if an announcement can be put on air when the water is to be shut off. A new starter at the lift station is needed. Water will be shut off when valves are replaced at Worthy Acres and in front of Hotel Ella Grace.
Public Relations: Beautify Biggsville is hosting a kickball tournament August 5, 2023. If interested in getting a team together the cost is $10 per person to play. Typical teams are 8-10 people. Food vendors, cruise in, bicycle parade, live music as well as a DJ will be there. For more information reference the Beautify Biggsville Facebook page. All proceeds will be donated for new playground equipment. This is crucial as the village will be filling out grants for upgrading its parks. The village asks all to be a part to help in these improvements.
Parks: There is a new refrigerator for the ballpark concession stand donated by Smokin’ Joes in Davenport, IA. Jamie will check the scoreboard and see what needs to be done. The shelter house will be torn down this fall. If anyone is interested in any of the picnic tables for free, please contact any of the village members. You must arrange for your own transportation and loading!
Old Business: The railroad wants to move forward with taking the bridge down. We will install the stove by August 1st.
New Business: A new shed for storage has been purchased. Mike will move everything out of the current shed and the ground will be leveled and prepared for the new shed which will be delivered when the ground is ready.
The Appropriations Ordinance #550 was approved by the board.
