Take “The Quill” Along

Dan and Martha Gillett took "The Quill" along to the Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia this winter where the "Surrending Meeting" was held later in the day April 9th, 1865 of Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee of Virginia to Union Army Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant. The sacrifice of many soldiers that day outnumbered by thousands of Federal troops who surrounded Lee that day, brought about the end to the Confederacy and the long-fought Civil War, saving the Union. The Gillettes also toured the old Confederate Capitol building in Richmond, VA, now the Virginia State Capitol and visited the House Chambers where Dan sat on a chair that General Lee had possibly sat on during many of his visits there in the 1860s. They also toured around the home that had been Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his family during that time period.

When you go on a trip, take “The Quill” along and have your picture taken with it and send it to us. Let’s see where all “The Quill” can travel.
