Special Council Meeting Approves New Part Time Police Officer

At the special La Harpe Council meeting on Monday, February 20th, the sole item was to discuss and take action on hiring a part-time police officer.

La Harpe Council opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m.with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Randy Shumaker was elected Mayor Pro-Tem since Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed was absent.

Shumaker stated the candidate, for part time police officer, was Willow Quivey.

Shumaker said Quivey was already fully qualified and had her own vest and carrier.

Quivey was asked if she would take the job at $18 per hour. Quivey agreed.

Council made a motion and unanimously approved hiring Willow Quivey as part time police officer at $18 per hour, effective immediately.

Council adjourned at 6:34 p.m.

Quivey has been working for the Hancock County Sheriff Department for 11 years. Quivey was a dispatcher the first 8 1/2 years and the last 2 1/2 years has been out on the road as a deputy.

Present at the meeting was city clerk Lucretia McPeak, council members, Deanna Stambaugh, Kelly Harkey, Randy Shumaker, Greg Wisslead, and Dave Clover, police chief Lynn Hoyt, Willow Quivey and Quill reporter Michael Rodeffer.
