The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
by Shelly Gittings - Special for The Quill
Hello everyone, it’s that time of year again! I know, right? Where has the time gone? How is it possible that Fall is fast approaching? Teachers and children have returned to the classrooms, athletes have returned to their sports and my there are a lot of them to keep track of. Gardeners are busy with produce, soon farmers will be busy with their crops, and the Stronghurst Booster Club is busy planning
the annual Fall Festival! It will be held Saturday September 16th from 9a.m. to 3p.m. at the Village Park.
We will have vendors in the park and you can look forward to a multitude of crafts, baked goods, cold beverages, home décor, books, mums, pumpkins, straw bales, food items and the list goes on.
We will have a list of vendors for you in the next couple weeks (we have 29 registered currently). The booster club will be selling lunch items in the shelter house.
We will also be selling beautiful mums again this year. To note we will not be doing pre orders this year, they will only be sold at the park during the festival.
The spray park will be running that day (weather permitting) and turns on at noon. Norm will be pulling children around in his fun barrel train rides. The Blue Room Band will entertain us during our event. The pickleball courts will be open, so bring your paddles! All this fun will all be at the park.
Uptown on Broadway Street is the annual Stronghurst Fall Festival Car Show! Since its inception it has grown to be quite a site!
It is such fun to stroll and look at all the different makes, models and colors, from late to newer. This year awards will be presented to: Top 20 (this is a participant vote), Booster Club Award, Mayor’s Choice Award, Veteran’s Award, Spectator Pick, Kid’s Choice Award, Top Car/Truck & Bike Award. Dash plaques available to the first 50 entries and there will be a limited number of T Shirts available. If you didn’t get a t shirt last year, and want one this year, please let Jeff Nichols or Brent Kennedy know so they can include it in the order! There be an antique tractor display as well. If you are interested in bringing a tractor please let Mike Cole know.
The Stronghurst Lions Club will be serving up Biscuits n Gravy from 7 to 10am. They will be making deliveries to the park for those that may not have the opportunity to make it uptown. Hooray for that!
Fishers will be grilling out all sorts of delicious food, and I’m told The Feedlot will have a Bloody Mary bar!
City Wide Yard sales will begin Saturday morning as well for all the bargain hunters out there. These usually start early and some sales even begin on Friday.
To round out your day the Henderson County Fairgrounds will host The Havoc at 6pm. Now this promises to be a busy fun filled day, so mark your calendars now and plan to come on in to Stronghurst for the day. We’ve got something for almost everyone!
Almost forgot to mention…… the booster club will be delivering straw bales the week after Labor Day to any area business that would like to decorate one. This has become a fun way for the Village to get into the Fall spirit! When you come into Stronghurst take a few minutes to look around and enjoy all the creativity.
See you on the 16th!!!
