Hello Folks!

Fall is here and I just keep hearing crickets…crick -et....crick-et....crick-et...or however their chirping sounds.

It's suppose to be the sign of spring or summer, but fall they should disappear!

My neighbor is crazy enough to say it helps her sleep, thinks it's relaxing, but I think it's all crazy and a sign it's not safe to go outside. I'm about ready to lose my mind!

I stay inside at night, but the creepy constant sounds is growing near my window continuously, and it's freakin' me out. I'm usually not annoyed by insects. I just swat them with my newspaper, but these creepy crickets - grasshoppers - katydids - whatever they are, are the worst – they won't shut up!

I called Aunt Polly! She's always full of advice.

Well, Polly asked me which was more important, not hearing the crickets or hearing them to pin-point where they are?

You can put earplugs in, but if one gets in your bedroom, you won't know until its too late and they have eaten holes through your clothes, upholstery, furs and linens.

Don't get yourself worked up in a sweat, because they are attracted to sweat, she said, food and sweets drizzled on leather or upholstery.

Be careful if you hear them close as they are attracted to fruit and vegetables, plant matter, dead insects, fields, pastures, trash cans, upholstery on patio furniture etc. At least the noise keeps you aware if they are outside or inside. That should help you sleep better.

Oh my goodness! She's right! Hearing them can be a good thing if I want to trap the little singer. Once in the house, they can live over a year or more and keep producing more crickets!

These noisy pests make me thankful winter's coming if I can keep them from getting inside! I'll be listening for their concerts, and watchful for any chirping inside.

Aunt Polly said it's rare for a cricket's mouthparts to actually puncture the skin but they do carry a significant number of diseases which, although having the ability to cause painful sores, are not fatal to humans. It'll be fatal for them to see me coming, once I spot them – SPLAT!

Hope you have a good day & a quiet night!
