The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

New Librarian for Henderson County Public Library District

By Virginia Ross - for The Quill

After 31 years of service, Librarian Anita Smith is retiring. Having enlarged the programs offered and expanded the library into the digital age, she worked with the library board to find a new director.

The library board had several candidates and selected Yesenia Lambert who graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor degree in English Literature and a minor in Anthropology.

Being a librarian in a rural county such as Henderson means one must be personable and hard working. Yesenia is that. She began her work experience at the age of 16 while keeping up her grades and participating in after school activities. While in college she held responsible jobs where she organized staff and managed the dining room for an upscale restaurant. At another job she served as the lead waitress where she was trained to be able to step into other positions as needed. She was so dependable that during the pandemic, she was one of the employees that was kept on staff because of her work ethic. As to library work, she interned with the on-campus library, learning research skills, communication, data entry and office applications.

Her campus volunteer work included working at a church’s special needs program, and college and career groups, large and small, where she led a study of women in the Bible.

Recently, she has worked at the Fort Madison Middle School as a personal assistant to the school assistant principal where she served as liaison between the principal and assistant principal, the school staff, and students as well as families in the community.

What does this mean to Henderson County? We are adding a librarian who knows how to organize, deal with all kinds of patrons, enjoys working with children, will be a guardian of county library funds, has a solid work ethic, and will offer new ideas of how to serve the public-just a few of her capabilities. Welcome, Yesenia Lambert; we all look forward to meeting you.

Join us at Henderson County Public Library for a Meet ‘n Greet, Wednesday, December 7th, 9am – 5pm. Come have a cookie with Yesenia and welcome her to the Library!
