Stronghurst Board Appoints New Trustee

Paige Torrance Sworn In As Stronghurst Trustee

By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

At the Monday, November 14th, Village of Stronghurst, board meeting, Mayor Brendan Schaley swore in Paige Torrance to fill the remaining position of Randy Jarvis, who previously resigned from the board.

The meeting was opened by Mayor Brendan Schaley leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Cholera Breiner was present to ask the board for a variance in order to place a shed in their yard. The zoning committee had rejected the application due to there are already 4 sheds on the property and the building is a 12 x 32 and a building cannot be more than 20’. Breiner said they were willing to remove 3 of the existing sheds. There is another shed on the property but it belongs to Barb Klossing and Breiner has asked the owner that it be removed. If the zoning committee rejects an application the applicant is allowed to file a repeal if they feel it is unjust, however it must be in writing, which the Breiner were unaware of.

Ronnie Gittings reported a water pipe leak on the highway has been fixed. Also the Christmas decorations on the Bank of Stronghurst is not working but they would need to get a bucket in order to get high enough to repair it.

Police report included: 47 hours worked, 6 training hours, 250 miles on the squad car, 1 traffic stop with a verbal warning, 2 assists, 5 service calls, 1 warrant arrest, 5 service calls, village ordinance tickets-verbal on cars to be moved and 1 trash in yard needed to be picked up, 10 business courtesy checks.

The board re-scheduled the lighted Christmas parade, which was scheduled for December 2nd to December 9th. This was due to the Christmas Walk having to reschedule to December 2nd.

In other business the board approved:
