Take “The Quill” Along

On September 3rd over 40 members of the Eva Marie (Harden) Link's family gathered around “The Quill” at the John and Cindy Link’s home in Media, IL. Family members came from Illinois, Iowa, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Nebraska, Nevada, and Indiana to celebrate Eva's 95th birthday and her great granddaughter Ava Simpson's 15th birthday.

While gathered, they also showed their families' support for Eva’s grandson Matthew Link, who is running for Henderson County Sheriff. Family members have been encouraging Henderson County residents to support Matthew by voting for him on November 8th.

Dessa Rodeffer, of Stronghurst, took "The Quill" along to the 51st Annual National Stearman Fly-in in Galesburg Saturday, September 10, 2022 and took a daring ride in this beautiful World War Stearman "Tillie" owned by Robert Preston of Akron, Ohio. Preston, orginally from England, offers rides yearly at the Fly-in for a fee. This year he had black ribbons tied on his plane as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth who died two days prior, Thursday, September 8th, the same day as Dessa's 44 year old nephew Samuel Paul Bell. Sam was struck by a car while riding a bicycle in a designated bike lane in Chicago. Dessa had always put the opportunity of flying in a Stearman off for the next year, but sometimes you don't have a next year. She felt Sam was encouraging her to fly, so she said "yes"! After Preston explained why the ribbons were on his plane, she knew Sam was smiling and it was meant to be. It was exhilarating and beautiful from Galesburg to the Mississippi River and she even flew it back to the airport!
