Vancil Announces His Candidacy for County Sheriff

Arbry Vancil, Stronghurst Chief of Police, is annoucning his Republican Party candidacy for Henderson County Sheriff in Illinois.

"I want to bring greater fiscal accountability to the Sheriff’s Office while improving the quality of response to calls for service and increasing the overall safety of the entire Henderson County community," Vancil states in his announcement.

"Over the course of the last several years, Henderson County authorities have sought alternatives to maintaining and administrating a jail facility within the county. I believe the Sheriff and County Board should explore every possibility of continuing to maintain a jail within the County and will work toward bringing the current facility and staff into compliance with IDOC Jail and Detention Standards.

Vancil said he also said, "Over the last decade, the jail has employed mostly part-time jailers. None of these have obtained the proper training or certification required by Illinois County Jail Standards. I favor employing full-time jailers and will push to maintain certified employees. I prefer hiring Henderson County residents."

Vancil promises if elected –

"I pledge to be a hardworking sheriff. I want deputies and jailers to return to professional uniforms.

"I want to mend previously strained relationships with other law enforcement agencies, including the State Police, Conservation Police, and especially local city police departments."

Vancil says that local, part-time departments do not have the resources that the Sheriff’s Office maintains, and the Sheriff’s Office does not have the resources that the State maintains.

"I believe agencies should work together to provide our community with the best law enforcement and investigative capabilities possible.

"With myself as Sheriff, deputies will answer every call for service and investigate every crime. It is not practical to call out off-duty, part-time village officers to respond when a deputy is on the scene of a call for service, as is the current practice. I want deputies to patrol strategically and intend to establish patrol zones for officers when possible. Deputies should patrol all corners of the county and have areas of responsibility."

Vancil said, "I hope you will all vote, and I hope you will consider me for Henderson County Sheriff.
