La Harpe City Council Hears

Reports and Approves Actions

The La Harpe City Council met on April 25th at 7:00 p.m.at La Harpe City Hall.

Dan Gillett addressed the council and expressed his gratitude to all those who had helped with the Easter egg hunt. Gillett commented it was very well run and a big success.

Financial and Audit Report

Kathy Shupe, representative for the certified public accountant firm of Arnold, Behrens, Nesbit, Gray, P.C. from Quincy addressed the council and presented a comprehensive annual financial report from the year ending April 30, 2021. Council unanimously approved the audit report.

Donation to La Harpe Car Show

The La Harpe Council unanimously approved $500 to the La Harpe Car Show and to allow city employees to help, as needed, if the city crew is available.

Gravel Increases

The La Harpe Council unanimously approved increasing the cost of a loader full of gravel from $20 to $30.

Approves Expenditures

Council also approved IEPA testing for the water department at a cost of $4,427.72.

The La Harpe Council unanimously approved the purchase of a camera for the sewer department to be available to check sewer lines for blockages. The purchase will allow the city crew to check out problems without calling someone from out of town.

Council unanimously approved accepting the treasurer’s report and paying of bills.

Cemetery

Greg Wisslead informed the council that two of the headstones from the cemetery were going to be repaired.

Police

Police Officer Lynn Hoyt informed the council he was in need of a new bullet-proof vest. Hoyt estimated the cost at $600-$800. Council didn’t take any action because the item was not on the agenda. Council plans on putting the item on the next month’s agenda so they could act on it.

City Park

Council also discussed chain link fencing around the basketball court at the city park. Council tabled the item until the next meeting’s agenda to collect prices for the project.

City-Wide Clean-Up

Clerk Lucretia McPeak reminded the Board and those present of the La Harpe Clean-up Day this coming Friday, May 6th.

Council adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
