Aunt Polly

HELLO DEAR FOLKS,

Excuse me for interrupting your day but I wanted to remind you that it is time for the Henderson County Fair in Stronghurst.

I always like to have all my entrees ready for the fair, like my homemade bread and my flower arrangements, and needlework, and I may show off some of my prize garden items and perhaps, I can get my neighbor boy to show his pretty dog in the fair.

I haven't decided which of my desserts I will enter, as it depends on the weather.

Young folk on the farm who are showing their livestock have been pretty busy already, no doubt, but there are plenty of activities for those city kids too.

There are Corn Hole competitions, mud volleyball team competitions, and tractor pulls, and horse shows, and Figure-8 Races to watch or compete in.

Junior and Open Fair Events are:

Monday, July 25th, be sure to be at the fairgrounds by 9:00 a.m. as the fair opens up with the poultry and rabbit show then. Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., horses are checked in at 3 p.m. with the horse show beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Monday and that is a pleasure to watch.

Tuesday, July 26 is the Jr. Show Judging for Sheep, Goat and Swine.

Wednesday, July 27 is the free Farmers Breakfast at 6:30 a.m. courtesy of the Bank of Stronghurst to start off the day. And then at 8:00 a.m., the food building opens for everyone to take in their entrees! The Sheep Show and the Goat Show begin at 9:00 a.m., and at 6:00 p.m. Family Night begins. Then there are three more fun days of events.

Thursday, July 28 - Beef Show, Bucket Calf, Tractor Show, Tractor Pull

Friday, July 29 - Swine, Jr. Exhibitor's Auction, Kids' Power Wheel, Figure 8 Races, Zipline and Bouncy House.

Saturday, July 30 - Clean-up in the morning and Check pickup for prizes, etc., but at 5:20 p.m. is Kids Power Wheel, and at 5:30 p.m. Figure 8 Races begin!.

Did I mention that Hobbies and Collectibles are in the Neff building Wednesday starting at 9:00 a.m. and $5,968.50 premiums are being offered on items that have not won premiums at any previous Henderson County Fair with a limit of 3 items in a self-contained sturdy container. Last year, Ethel can tell you about her not suppose to be upside-down cake. I guess she learned her lesson (I hope!)

-Love, Aunt Polly
