Good Day Folks!

I was readin' last week's Quill about National Hat Day and I did not see anywhere where the ladies nice hats were mentioned. Now that is just a shame as for years we've been wearing pretty hats along with nice gloves and it is historic of high class ladies wearing nice hats.

Well, can't you remember Jackie Kennedy, the first lady of the United States and her hats? Here is a picture of Mrs. Kennedy in gloves and her pillbox hat. And do you remember Queen Elizabeth and her many hats and Princess of Wales - the late Diana Frances Spencer?

Mine is a pillbox hat like the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis only I have a fancy veil netting attached over the top, so I look fit for a wedding party. When I grew up it was alway proper to wear a hat, dress and gloves. Many still wear dresses instead of those unflattering pants and will wear a hat on cold days or to a fancy party.

Since so many wear pants and can't be seen in pretty dresses, I am guessing that's why they wear caps and the Stetson hats which I think should be saved for horseback riding or working outside on the farm.

Hats make a fashion statement and can also hide a bad hair day (or a balding head as some men can attest). For women today, it shades the skin and face but can brighten up an outfit and your day. If you have a big hat, don't wear it to the movies as you really tick me off when I can't see the show because of a rude perkie person not thinking of others!

Still today, ladies put on a pretty summer dress and a very fancy hat at the Kentucky Derby for style and fun. Some of us will never be seen without a hat as it just doesn't seem proper. We were taught, to be fully dressed, you must wear a hat when you go out. Hope to see you in one soon. I'll try to get Aunt Polly to wear one. Ha! I guess we can't all look stylish!

Jacqueline Kennedy (wife of US President JF Kennedy) wore hats and gloves.

Britan's Queen Elizabeth (left) and the late Princess of Wales Diana Spencer almost never went without their hats.
