By: Michael Rodeffer, The Quill

On Monday, January 10th, the council was informed by Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed that the city has taken ownership of the two dilapidated buildings on Main Street (116 E Main and 118 E Main) and also has received the ownership for the property at 109 South Center Street (east of city park). The council will get quotes for the demolition of the sites.

Alderman Dave Clover, police officer and water superintendent Tim Graves met with Ron Kienast at the old nursing home building. Kienast is fixing apartments in the building to rent out. Kienast showed the group around and informed them there were four apartments fixed up and ready for use. Kienast lives in one apartment, rents 2 other apartments out and has a fourth apartment finished and ready for rent. Clover informed the council that Kienast should be billed water and sewer for each of the four apartments.

Tim Graves informed the council that the motor on the gasifier at the water plant was not working properly. The motor is a single phase motor. Original plans called for a three phase motor. The engineering firm and the electrical installer will be notified to try and come up with a solution.

Council unanimously approved $750 for a computer and monitor so the police department can download videos from their dashboard camera.

Attorney Kurt Dittmer informed the council that Ameren Power Company was asking for easements along transmission lines at some city properties. Dittmer stated the company would compensate owners depending on actual acres involved. Dittmer explained he would keep the council informed on the matter.

Dave Clover informed the council that a different salt spreader had been purchased for a cost of $1,450 including delivery.

In other action the council unanimously approved:
